A pre exam stress and fun free event for CCT residents was recently held at TUT Soshanguve North Campus.
The aim of the open stage was not only to unite students fun free in fulfilled atmosphere before the final year examination take place but also to platform for talent exposure.
The organiser of the event Samukelo Ntombela says the event which was done on a voluntarily student participation bases was inspired after being moved by wall posting in students residences.
“As an RC I was that when we were giving away tissues in the student’s residences, I saw that many of our students had posted poems, pictures and lyrics on their walls. It’s useless for them to write while their work remains on walls because one knows their works.”
The open stage event gave platform for Talented and inspiring stand up comedians, poets, musician and dancers to showcase their talents.
One of the stage participants Simphiwe Khumalo, who performed a self written poem title “Darkie (Black man)”, that moved the crowd with its hard hitting realistic punch lines says his poem was inspired by what he sees every day.
“Apartheid left a scar on us and I think we have to work on that because people seem to be waiting for people to give then opportunities to be handed to them.”
Winnie Mtsweni, an education student came to the event with in her pyjamas said she enjoyed the event and she thinks that will have a positive impact on student’s academic life as Students are always stressed before the final exams.
“After all its important work hard and play hard “she added.
