Goal rain for Pretoria team

 Sibusiso Banda

Kgotlelelang Soccer Academy FC taught Army Joe a hard lesson when they smashed them 8 – 2 in the Sodifa promotional match at Giant Stadium on Sunday.

A lot of scoring opportunities were created by the Army boys but they failed to convert into goals. Kgotlelelang used the misfortunes of the opposition to their advantage. Within the first 30 minutes of game Isaac Morudi netted the first goal of the match.

The goal seemed to increase the Army’s dry luck and increased Kgotlelelang’s scoring chances. As a result, Kgotlelelang’s Thabang scored his brace in the 25th and 36th minutes respectively.

Army’s captain, Rueben Masedi tried his luck to find the net, but most of his shots went over the bar.
Kgolelelang’s Kenny Nkonyane, who came into the game just before half time, scored the goal that lowered the Army’s morale.

The second half saw the Army changing their strategy, now playing defensive football and attacking less. They only scored their responding two goals in the 10th and 39th minutes into the game.

Boipao Thlabane of Kgotlelelang also added his brace to the score board consecutively in the 75th minutes.
The goals stampeded the already low morale of the Army. More of their attempts to score turned out to be unproductive.

In the dying minutes of the game, Kgotlelelang’s Pholoso Tusane and again Nkonyane added their final goals that gave Kgotlelelang the 8- 2 win.

Army Joe’s coach Sibusiso Manke said they lost because his team undermined the opponents.

“Our team’s performance was really bad today because the mentality they adopted from the moment they saw the other team”

Although they won, Khotlelelang’s coach Mpho Bapela said he was not happy about his team’s overall performance.

“They played well but there are still a number of flaws that they need to improve on”
