A boring award night that was
clearly, in my own opinion, not designed for TELEVISION! Don’t get me wrong,
the setting of the venue was great, but I felt that aside from Samuel Jackson's
surprise appearance, poor coordination and planning was more of a highlight of
the day.
What a drag: Connie Ferguson’s
presentation style was NOT ON POINT. Despite her excellent dress, there were too
many errors in her speech. She was like Zuma when he took over the ANC but
without the confidence. The number of times she stuttered could have made an
excellent "number" for the budget speech, if you catch my drift.
As much as I felt sorry for crowd
who attended the SAFTAs, Her co-host, Nik Rabinowitz saved the night. He should
be given a Bells. If it wasn’t for him most people would have changed the channel.
His naughty comedic remarks and the accent they were delivered in came in
handy.
As much as SAFTAS is committed to
showcase and celebrate excellence within the South African Film and Television
industry, don’t get me started on the winners. They were given far end table
seats as a result they took time to come to the stage. Too much time was
wasted!
Most of the camera work, to be specific
camera shots where below standards. I'm guessing since this was the night for the
professionals, those who were in charge were the second best?? Someone should have schooled that crew about
the different camera shots and their impacts. The framing was totally bad
especially when the winners where on stage busy with their acceptance speech.
Just to cut the long
"mistakes" story short, a lot of people are still asking about Generations.
I guess the great thing about the SAFTAs was that all the winners were
presented with the SAFTA Golden Horn Trophy and received a ‘goodie bag’
containing:
· Obako Watches (worth between R5 000 and R7 000 each)
· Quality Street Desert Delight Chocolates
· 150 Grazia Magazines
· 150 TV Plus Magazines
· 76 R100 vouchers from Zando
· R200 x 80 Tsunami food vouchers
The greatest part was that unlike the recent SAMAs,
ministers, public figure and politicians THIS TIME DID NOT GET PUBLIC SHOUTOUTS
ON NATIONAL TV.
