SAMA Nominee Announcement This Thursday

Countdown begins to the ‘big reveal' of MTN SAMA 18 nominations.

The bets are on and the anticipation is high, as the nation holds its collective breath ahead of the announcement of the nominees in the 18th Annual MTN South African Music Awards on Thursday, 8 March 2012.

All will be revealed at a press conference at 9am on Thursday, when MTN SAMAs CEO Randall Abrahams will introduce former SAMA winners - who in turn - will unveil the list of exceptional homegrown musicians vying for a sought-after trophy across 32 categories.

The most hotly contested categories are sure to be the "big five" - Album of the Year, Duo or Group of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year.

The popular MTN SAMA Record of the Year category, which is decided solely by the public through sms votes, has grown bigger this year through a competition that will give one lucky passionate music "fan of the year" a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present the Record of the Year statuette to the winner and walk away with R180 000.

The nominees announcement will be streamed live via the MTN SAMA mobisite at www.mtnsamatv.mobi, and you can also follow @SAMusicAwards on Twitter to find out who's vying with whom for what award, as soon as it's announced.

As the primary broadcast sponsor, SABC 1 will cover the morning's happenings and highlights on Live, Mzansi Insider and Yo TV.

But the excitement doesn't end there. The night of 8 March will also see the nominees partying on down at an exclusive event in Joburg. You'll be able to catch all the glamorous Yellow Carpet action and performances live via the MTN SAMA mobisite as well as on SABC 1's Live, Selimathunzi, RGB and Club Culture.

Regarded as the industry's most illustrious event, the 18th Annual MTN South African Music Awards will celebrate SA music's finest at Sun City on 29 and 30 April 2012. The main awards ceremony is set to be an entertainment spectacle of note, and will be broadcast live on SABC1 from 8.30pm on Monday, 30 April.
