Valentine's gift, not what she expected

My best friend has been anticipating today for a while now. In previous years her boyfriend has used the 14th as a day to shower her with extravagant gifts.
One year it was a trip to Rome. The next year it was a picnic at the foot of the pyramids of Egypt. So understandably, she’s been waiting today with excitement.
Strangely though, she has had no word from him. No emails reminding her to “save the date”. No tell-tale gifts that lead up to the big day.
A mixture of anxiety and curiosity forced her to snoop. She went through his mail and found a confirmation form SAA. Two flights tickets to France. She went through his wallet and found a receipt form American Swiss. She went through his phone and found SMSes between him and his mom.
He confirmed that this was indeed that this was indeed the right time. He mentioned that “she was the one”. “He’s going to propose at the top of Eiffel Tower” she screamed to into the phone waking me up this morning.
I was less excited and more cautious. “Did he tell you you’re going away? Has he asked your dad for your hand in marriage? Are you sure?”
“Well of course I didn’t ask him” she said, “It wouldn’t be a surprise anymore if he told me- would it?” So she didn’t go to work today, she stayed in bed to plan and pack. She called her family, told her friends and waited anxiously for him to surprise her.
When she finally made her way to the kitchen for something to eat has e found a short message pinned to the fridge.
“Happy valentine’s day, Going back to my wife”.
