Professor Fined For Wearing Police Uniform

Kwaito star Mkhonzeni "Professor" Langa has been fined R3 000 or one month in prison for wearing a metro police uniform to the Metro FM Music Awards.

The SAPS Act of 1995 says that it is an offence for any non-member to wear the uniform or any part thereof (including the badge), unless granted permission by the office of the provincial or national commissioner.

Magistrate Singh reportedly said he was not of the view that Professor had wanted to commit a serious offence when he wore the uniform. He had pleaded guilty of contravening the SA Police Service Act.

 

"And he pleaded guilty, he did not waste the court's time," he said.

 

The court ordered that half of the penalty would be conditionally suspended for three years.

Professor wore the police uniform during his live performance at this year’s Metro FM Award ceremony in Durban.
