Parliament has sacked its secretary Zingile Dingani with immediate effect improper conduct.
The move came after a disciplinary panel recommended that Dingani be fired after he was found guilty on two of the nine charges of misconduct relating to a salary advance he has secured from parliament.
Proposing the motion to the National assembly, ANC’s Chef Whip Mathole Motshekga said he had noted that on1 December last year, Dingani requested Parliament’s Executives Authority to approve a “salary advance of R186 00 to build a security wall at his home,”
Assembly speaker Max Sisulu and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) chairperson Mniwa Mahlangu approved the requested on basis that Dingani had “claimed” that parliament policies provided salary advance.
Since the 5 April, Dingani has been placed on special paid leave while the matter was being investigated.
Different political parties had held a special press conference with the Journalism students from the Tshwane University of Technology before the parliament sat to make the announcement.
Inkatha Freedom Party’s Nkululeko Hlengwa openly admitted that there is still a lot of work to be done regards to the party image.
“There is a dark cloud that is still chasing the IFP. The false image of us being a “Zulu dominated or targeted” party is negatively haunting us. This is not the case, we are a multi-racial party.”
Jerry Thibedi from the ANC said media places a crucial role in helping them exposing corruption.
“We do admit that we have a love and hate relationship with the media, but we are grateful of the information and monitory role they play within the society as it also helps us to react and respond rooting out and ending corruption,” he said.
One of the students, Siboniso Nkosi said he was motivated by the conference.
“It was eye opening experience visiting parliament. I am happy that we got a chance to have a special one on one session with political parties leaders.” He added.
